What are your hours?
We’re open Sunday-Thursday 10am-8pm and Saturday 10am-10pm.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel my booking?

I have never done one of these before. Are escape rooms scary? Will someone jump out and surprise me?
You’re in for a good time! No, our rooms are not scary. They are themed and immersive, but there is no intentional scaring or startling. None of our rooms have actors.
What do I wear in an escape room?
We recommend wearing clothes that are comfortable and easy to move around in. There may be some crouching, crawling, and/or reaching, so you may feel more comfortable forgoing a skirt or dress in favor of pants or shorts.
Will it be just my group? Or will other people be in the room with us?
Maybe. We book our rooms to capacity to allow as many people to enjoy our rooms as possible. So, if your party doesn’t book the room fully, there is a possibility that other players might join you—but don’t worry, it is a lot of fun to work with others who have different perspectives, and it is a great way to meet people. Often, our mixed groups are the most successful! Prefer a private room? No problem – select the “Private Event” option at checkout to book the entire experience.
Our group is a little larger – can we have more people in a room than listed on the website?
Yes. We are able to accommodate some extra players in our room. Make sure to give us a call at (805) 250-4839 to let us know about the additional players. To ensure everyone has an engaging and unforgettable experience – and also for safety reasons – we are unable exceed seven players for Grim Stacks, seven players for The Curse on the Emerald Sea, and 12 for Pipe Works.
Can we book a room outside of your hours listed on the book now page? What if I have a large group? Can we start several rooms at the same time?
We do offer special booking options for large groups and team building. For pricing and availability, please call (805) 250-4839 and an event specialist can assist you.
I have age questions! Is there an age limit? Can I bring my baby? What if my child is a minor? Would your escape rooms be appropriate for my kid’s birthday party?
There is no age limit for our escape rooms. The puzzles and overall experience are designed for adults, however. Since the games require quite a bit of focus, we don’t recommend bringing babies, though they are allowed. If you are bringing children under 14, we recommend booking the whole room. Pipe Works is a great room for beginners, though all the rooms’ themes are fun at any age or skill level.
How much is it? Do you have an escape room promo code? How about a group / senior / student / military / Groupon discount?
The cost is $30 per person. We are proud to offer a military discount; please call us to receive your code. Due to our competitive pricing, we are unable to offer additional discounts.
Are the escape rooms wheelchair-friendly?
Yes, all of our rooms can be played from a wheelchair.
Where is The Puzzle Effect in SLO?
The physical address is 583 Marsh St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. There is limited metered parking on the street in front of the store, so we recommend using the San Luis Obispo Parking Structure on Marsh and Chorro. Check out our DIRECTIONS tab for a map and more detailed information. Please be sure you and your group arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time. This will allow everyone to sign our waiver, hear the rules, and get psyched up to start on time!
Are animals or pets allowed in the rooms?
Service animals are always welcome; purse pets or any other pet is not.
Can we bring alcohol in with us?
We like how you think, but no. Escape rooms require a lot of brain power, so alcohol and an escape room aren’t a great combination. Fortunately, there are plenty of wonderful bars and restaurants within walking distance where you can hang out and talk about your experience for hours afterwards.
